Redspotted Sunfish

While populations of these fish in the south are stable, in their northern range they are suffering from habitat destruction, pollution, and from the competition with invasive species like the grass carp. During the breeding season, the male builds a nest and then rushes back and forth between a female and his nest while producing a series of grunts to attract her to his nest.
