General Summary: The Animal Technician performs animal husbandry, including feeding animals and cleaning animal facilities.

Requirements and Job Specifications

Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent

License(s) Required: Valid LA driver's license in good standing. Must be able to obtain an LA driver's license within 60 days of hire.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 1 year experience in animal care. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

The Catering/Event Sales Manager seeks and develops relationships with local companies, groups, and organizations to grow the Zoo's catering/event sales business. The Manager will be responsible for maintaining sales and outside calls quota. Sales techniques will include personal appointments, outbound telemarketing, and onsite FAM tours. It is expected that the Manager will spend at least 50% of their time meeting with clients to sell product and grow and maintain relationships. The Catering/Event Sales Manager works closely with Education Department and Guest Services staff to successfully fulfill sales as needed. The Catering/Event Sales Manager works with Zoo management to ensure services rendered, products sold and price points are attractive and in line with our local market offerings. This position also contributes to positive guest experiences and performs other duties as required.  

The Guest Services Associate is responsible for a variety of guest-related activities.  Duties may include assisting and greeting guests; counting guests; collecting and remitting cash; safe and efficient operation of rides; setting up displays, loading, unloading, and stocking merchandise; selling merchandise in gift shops; food service and catering preparation; displaying and selling food to guests; assisting in setting up and breaking down of zoo events and rentals.  Other duties will include maintaining assigned work stations that are aesthetically pleasing and businesslike, which could consist of a ticket office, gift shop, cafes, and surrounding areas.  There is constant direct exposure to the public. Scheduled work hours and assigned areas may vary to meet the needs of Zoo guests. Must be flexible to work some evenings and early morning hours, weekends, and some holidays are required. Limited exposure to some adverse temperature conditions with extended periods of sitting and standing in a small workspace.

The Zoo Educator works in the Education Office and throughout the Zoo as related to education and educational services. This requires scheduling educational programs, supervising camps staff and volunteers, presenting educational programs, research and development of educational curriculum, working with Zoo Camp, animal handling, and composing routine correspondence. Work involves interaction with other Zoo employees, volunteers, teachers, and the general public.

Requirements And Job Specifications:

  • Education Required: Graduation from an accredited 4 year college or university in education or life sciences
  • License: Valid LA driver's license
  • Other: Computer and general office skills, excellent written & oral communication skills for public programming, excellent interpersonal/public relations skills

Functions And Duties:

  • Researches, schedules and implements Ed-Zoo-Cation programs, including Safari Nights, Amphitheater Programs and Zoo mobile classes
  • Assists with the direct supervision of Summer Camps and seasonal camp employees and volunteers
  • Prepares and disseminates correspondence about Education programs to all area schools, including programs offered and confirmations
  • Assists in website development
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of exhibit graphics including zoo key boxes
  • Handles and trains education animals
  • Assists with direction and training of volunteers

Supplemental Information:

40 hours a week as assigned. Generally, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week; occasional evenings and weekends are required. Days worked will be Sunday through Thursday, except during spring and summer camps when it is Monday through Friday.
