Common Snapping Turtle

While usually docile in the water, a snapping turtle on land can become aggressive if threatened. With a neck that is almost as long as its shell it can snap at a predator even if it sneaks up from behind.

Most of the snappers that venture out of the water are females looking for a place to lay eggs. Unfortunately, many of them are killed by cars.
