Roseate Spoonbill

This bird's pink feather pigment comes from the small crustaceans it eats. In the early part of the 20th century there were only a few dozen nesting pairs of roseate spoonbills left. Draining of wetlands and over-hunting for feathers nearly led to the extinction of the species.
