Marabou storks are carnivores that get much of their food from scavenging. It is one of the largest stork species and one of the largest flying birds in the world. They are attracted to grass fires and will stalk in front of the approaching flames and grab small animals that are fleeing.

At a carcass the marabou must wait for a vulture to open the skin. Once it is open the marabou uses its huge beak to rip off large chunks of flesh, which it swallows whole.
