About

The Lappet-faced vulture is one of the largest vultures in Africa with a wingspan of 9 feet. The word "lappet" refers to the flap-like structures of skin on the sides of its head.

Because they are not as powerful, smaller scavengers will often rely on these vultures to be first to tear into carcasses.
