The legless lizard may look like a snake, but it has moveable eyelids, external ear openings, and lizard teeth. Also, unlike a snake it has a very long tail that makes up 2/3 of its length. Like many other lizards it can drop a portion of its tail to help it escape from a predator, although it is less likely to do this than other species.

This animal is very helpful to farmers in its native territory because it preys on many creatures that can destroy crops. A favorite food is snails.
