Crested Caracara

Although it looks like a long-legged hawk and is sometimes called the Mexican eagle, the caracara is actually in the same family as falcons.

It regularly walks and runs, but is also a strong flier. It is an opportunistic hunter and will take prey on the ground or in shallow water. It can even be found feeding alongside vultures.
