The cane toad produces a toxin that can be lethal to many animals including domestic pets. In humans it can cause skin and eye irritation and nausea if ingested.

These amphibians were introduced into many countries as a way to control insects in sugar cane fields. They rapidly spread and caused declines in native amphibian and predator populations. This is considered one of the 100 most destructive introduced species.
