Get into the holiday spirit with Zoo Lights at BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo, presented by Our Lady of the Lake Children's Health! Wander through a magical wonderland of twinkling lights and animal encounters. The zoo is open from November 29th to December 30th (closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day).

Admission gates open from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and grounds close at 9:00 p.m.

Admission:

  • Adults/Teens: $5
  • Seniors: $4
  • Children (2-12): $3
  • Children (1 and under): Free
  • Zoo Members: $3 per person​

We are partnering with the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank again this year! During Zoo Lights, every guest presenting a non-perishable food item will receive a 50% discount from the regular admission price. All food donations will go directly to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. In 2020, just over 7,000 pounds of food were collected during this drive.

Come to the zoo to enjoy a trail of thousands of dazzling lights around the zoo for a cherished family holiday tradition in Baton Rouge.

On Fridays and Saturdays before Christmas, Zoo Lights will feature visits from Santa Claus at the Otter Cabin!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q: When is Zoo Lights?

A: Zoo Lights begins the day after Thanksgiving and ends on December 30. The Zoo is closed for Christmas Eve & Christmas Day.

Q: What are the hours for Zoo Lights?

A: Admissions are open from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Zoo grounds close at 9 p.m.

Q: Will I be able to see Zoo animals?

A: Animal viewing is limited at this event, as many of our animals are brought inside for the night. Zoo Lights is an evening, holiday event that does not offer the same viewing opportunities as a daytime visit.

Q: Can I walk around the entire Zoo during Zoo Lights?

A: No. Certain areas of the Zoo are closed for this event. For your safety, please always remain on lighted, designated paths.

Q: Will I be able to ride the train?

A: The train will not be operational during Zoo Lights.

Q: Is food available for purchase?

A: Yes. The Flamingo Café will be open and serving specialty holiday items in addition to the regular menu.

Q: What happens if it rains?

A: The Zoo Lights remain on during rain. Dress appropriately for the weather. The Zoo does not issue refunds or rainchecks.

Q: Will the Safari Post Gift Shop be open?

A: Yes. The Adventure Market Gift Shop will be open every night for Zoo Lights. The Zoo is the perfect place to do your holiday shopping!

Q: Can I bring my flashlight?

A: No. Flashlights and laser pointers are not allowed for the safety of our animals and for the courtesy of other guests. You may take photos or videos without a flash.
