General Information

The Education Department at BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo will be accepting applications for the 2014 Zoo Krewe from March 31, 2014 until May 23, 2014. The Zoo Krewe is a program for youths that provides them with hands-on training that will simulate what it is like working at the Zoo.

The program is open to all teenagers 13-17 years old with a GPA of at least 3.0 or higher. Zoo Krewe is designed for youths that are thinking about a career with exotic animals and in public speaking.

Application includes:

Two teacher recommendations
Copy of applicant's report card
Short essay about why applicant is interested in becoming a Zoo Krewe member

Also included in the application process is a brief on-site interview. The Zoo will only accept 15 new Zoo Krewe members each year. Chosen members will be notified of their acceptance by June 2, 2014.

After being accepted into the program, each member will be required to take a TB test on their own time. They are also responsible for attending a mandatory orientation on June 23, 2014.

The Zoo Krewe will get to experience Zoo life and learn about all of the animals in the Zoo. They will have a chance to make enrichment for animals while learning about conservation. This is a chance of a life time for a fun-filled summer in the outdoors. You will have the opportunity to make friends with other members and become a part of our Zoo family.

Fee

The cost of this program is $150 per year. The cost includes 2 shirts, learning materials, supplies and training.
