"Hop" Your Way through May at The Zoo!

BATON ROUGE, La. - BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo is a great place for family and friends to enjoy the beautiful spring weather. Treat your mom on her special day with a visit! 

Mother's Day at the Zoo
Visit BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo on this special day to pay tribute to moms. On May 12, the first 100 moms who enter the Zoo will receive a flower courtesy of Billy Heroman's. Visitors will enjoy mom & me themed Safari Amphitheater programs and can make a craft for mom. Regular Zoo admission applies. Visit www.brzoo.org or call 225.775.3877 for more information.

Zoo Camp
Summer break means Zoo Camp time! Ages and themes vary by week. Each session is different so children can enjoy multiple weeks at the Zoo! $110/child per week ($132 out-of-parish). 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (early drop off at 7:30 a.m. and late pick up at 5:30 p.m. at no additional fee). Zoo & Me Mornings
Held the second Tuesday of every month, this program is designed for 3 to 5-year-old children accompanied by a parent or guardian. Programs are 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and will incorporate many exciting activities including a train ride, animal encounters, art projects, "Zooper" snacks and many other hands-on projects that you and your child can enjoy together. $18/child with one parent or guardian. $30/2 children with one parent or guardian. Safari Night
Have you ever wondered what the Zoo is like at night? Safari Night programs show you night-life at the Zoo and are available for group reservations on Fridays and Saturdays, year-round. Your Safari Guide will lead your group on walking tours of the Zoo. Designed for your group of 15-30 people, you'll learn all about the Zoo's animals through hands-on activities and animal encounters. All participants receive a Safari Night T-shirt. Enjoy a continental breakfast and the experience of serving breakfast to a Zoo animal! Cost: $30/person; minimum of 15 people. Pre-registration required. For more information please call 775-3877.

About the Zoo:
BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo is a place where people connect with animals, including elephants, giraffes, rhinos and alligators. The world-class Realm of the Tiger features highly endangered tigers, Siamang gibbons and beautiful Asian birds. Visitors can enjoy the Flamingo Cove and Giants of the Islands, featuring the Zoo's Chilean flamingos and Galapagos and Aldabra tortoises, as well as the Safari Playground, the Otter Pond, our exhibit featuring a replicated fishing cabin with underwater viewing of the otters, L'aquarium de Louisiane, Parrot Paradise and KidsZoo. Adults and children can ride the Cypress Bayou Railroad on a scenic ride through the unique Louisiana habitat that surrounds the core Zoo. The Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Look for the AZA logo whenever you visit a zoo or aquarium as your assurance that you are supporting a facility dedicated to providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for you and a better future for all living things.

Zoo grounds close at 5 p.m.
Gate and grounds open 1 hour later on weekends April through August.

Fun Fact
When a cassowary or emu female mates, she lays the eggs, but the male incubates and raises them. The female may mate with 2 or 3 males a season.
