Demoiselle Crane

This is the smallest species of crane.  When they migrate they can reach altitudes up to 26,000 feet and cross the Himalayas despite cold temperatures and low oxygen.

These birds mate for life and strengthen the pair bond through elaborate dancing displays and loud trumpeting calls.  They do not breed until they are at least three years old.
