Nicobar Pigeon

The courtship display of the male, bowing and cooing, may go on for days.  These birds nest on small islets off shore and travel to the mainland to feed.  They do this to protect their offspring from predation by monkeys. Like all pigeons, both parents produce "crop milk", a white liquid used to feed the young.

Studies have shown that the Nicobar pigeon is probably the closest living relative to the extinct dodo bird.
